The eagerly anticipated clash between Colo Colo (http://www.colocolo.cl/) and Pachuca was realised today in the Final of the Copa Sudamericana in Mexico. The first leg clash was an enticing affair, Pachuca sending the stadium into raptures with Andrés Chitiva's goal in the 27'. That thunderous acclaim was soon converted into silence when Humberto Suazo (pictured) made it 1-1 in the 50' of play. See goal here.
It wasn't the brilliant showing that many Colo Colo fans have become used to, but the valuable 1-1 draw away from home should be enough for the best Chilean club side to claim another international title to their list of impressive achievements.
The return leg will be played in the National Stadium of Chile, Santiago (at present, the Monumental Stadium is unavailable due to suspension following an ugly rock throwing incident that almost cost the home side their place in the tournament).
This sequence of events is reminiscent of 1991 when Colo Colo claimed their first international trophy (Copa Libertadores) after drawing 0-0 with Olimpia of Paraguay in Asuncion, and completing the deal with an emphatic 3-0 home victory in the Estadio Monumental.
Can this new crop of emerging talent from an impressive Colo Colo side emulate the success of their predecessors?
